Confronting Fate in Albuquerque

I'll never forget seeing "actual" mountains for the first time in almost a year when approaching the Sandia Mountains on our way into Albuquerque.  As we've traversed this gigantic country and met all kinds of people, it's become apparent that there are different types of people (well of course, but I'll explain...).  There are river people, and beach people, and desert people, and city people, and mountain people.  Upon viewing the massive cliff lines, jagged rocks, and tall peaks, I was reminded once more that we are most definitely mountain people.    Read more

The Road Home Part 4: How to Get Lost on Route 66

When we left North Carolina to head back to Utah, we never set out to end up on Route 66 specifically.  In fact, we weren't exactly sure which way we were taking back to Utah, only that it had to be somewhat direct based on our budget situation.  Once we arrived in Oklahoma City, we realized that hopping on the Route was an option and decided it would be a welcome change from the straight-shot freeway route we'd taken up to that point.   Read more

The Road Home Part 3: Big Dam Arkansas

After two all-too-short days spent in Tennessee, it was back on the road for us with Arkansas in our crosshairs.  We drove all day and found ourselves in Little Rock that night.  We drove around downtown Little Rock looking for something to do on our zero dollar budget with no luck in particular.  Finding ourselves with nothing to do in a city we knew nothing about, we decided to "stay in" for the night and just hang out in the van.   Read more
