Life as a Van Dweller in San Diego

After a month in San Diego, I couldn’t help but compare myself with the homeless population. It’s touted perfect weather seems to have a draw of it’s own for those lacking shelter. When moving from city to city in our van, we’re used to lying low and maintaining a stealthy cover. But when there’s someone sleeping literally right outside your door every night, lying low is literally an impossibility.   Read more

The Quick Back Story...

Just before beginning our “Vagabloggers” experience of full-time travel a few years ago, we saw a documentary called Blood Into Wine. The documentary chronicles the up-and-coming wine industry in Arizona. More notably, the documentary features the story behind the wines of the ubiquitous musician (and now winemaker) Maynard James Keenan. For those who may be unfamiliar... in short, Maynard in an individual who has had a resounding impact on my life through the music and lyrics of the bands he fronts: Tool, A Perfect Circle, and Puscifer. Shortly after seeing said film, we found ourselves inspired to experience this Arizona wine scene and taste the wines for ourselves. So… we planned a road trip to Flagstaff/Cottonwood/Jerome with a couple of friends and off we went. The experience, however, was incredibly short-lived and we, well… made mistakes. Like not even buying or tasting Maynard’s artisan line of wines: Caduceus. If you’re super curious about those mistakes, check out our older Jerome blog post here.

Now, after having lived the nomadic lifestyle for over 3 years, we were presented with the opportunity to meet up with some friends (one of whom joined us on the previous trip) for a redemption visit. This time, we had all the time in the world, a van to stay in, and frankly, better access to the wines.   Read more

Exploring Bryce Canyon National Park

After a winter in Utah, we started the next leg of our never-ending journey by heading south to Bryce Canyon National Park.  After all the years we've lived in Utah, we'd never actually BEEN to Bryce!  Naturally, we made it a mandatory stop on our way out this time.

I could go on and on here describing the magic this place can instill, but words cannot do a place like this justice.  Instead, we'll leave you with a few enticing photos and a video.  Experiencing the rest will be up to you.  Enjoy.   Read more

Climbing and Skiing Solitude's Fantasy Ridge

It seems I’ve found a new favorite place on the planet (for now). I’ve spent last two winters teaching skiing at Solitude Mountain Resort in Utah to build funds for our travels. While at Solitude, I’d heard tales of the legendary Fantasy Ridge and the serious nature of the skiing that lay within its chutes and rock-laden ridges. It wasn’t until I chose to venture up the Ridge myself that I realized the brevity of this wintry world which overlooked Solitude’s resort boundaries.   Read more
