Reawakening the Inner Nerd at Salt Lake Comic Con Fan X

Interestingly enough, we never fancied ourselves as "comic con goers".  In fact we'd never really taken much interest in any comic con ever.  Which is exactly why we were open to it when a family member suggested that we apply to be on Salt Lake Comic Con's Fan X Media Team.  We're always open to new experiences and given the fact that we travel slowly on a low budget, people watching is certainly one of our fortes.  That being said, Salt Lake Comic Con's Fan X has some of the best people watching on the planet!  Ok... maybe this is a little more down our alley that we knew.   Read more

Midnight Water Crew to the Rescue! Volunteering for the Ragnar Wasatch Back Relay

One of the things we'd set out to do when we began this whole traveling adventure was to volunteer as much as possible. That being said, we haven't spent near as much time volunteering as intended 🙁 Luckily, injuries and circumstance provided us one such opportunity to spend a little time giving back. At the end of last summer, I had the pleasure of running the Hood to Coast Relay in Oregon with some old and new friends. This same relay group decided that they were just crazy enough to do another 200 mile relay: The Ragnar Wasatch Back. Because my knee is still recovering from an ACL and meniscus tear from the ski season, I was unable to run the relay BUT… when asked to be honorary members and serve as volunteers for the team, Meisha and I jumped at the chance!   Read more

The Road Home Part 5: How to Defile a Cadillac

We rolled into Amarillo in the early evening.  We weren't sure what to expect and frankly, we didn't find much 🙁  We started by heading straight downtown to see what there was to see and weren't able to muster up anything to do outside of visiting one of the local watering holes for a drink.  Feeling disappointed by downtown Amarillo, we decided to drive around and explore a bit more.   Read more

The Road Home Part 2: The Tennessee Two-Day

From North Carolina we moved on to Tennessee to explore the town of Chattanooga.  In particular, this was because I was reading book American Gods by Neil Gaiman and two Chattanooga tourist attractions play a prominent role in the book:  Rock City and Lookout Mountain.  We had hopes of visiting the attractions but found them to be out of our budget.  Instead, we enjoyed checking out the cool bridges, architecture, graffiti, and relaxing to the cool vibe we felt from the people of the city Read more
